Break a script down like a scientist, then put the words back as behavior. Three reads, with scenes from the Masterclass scene study.

Description
This course is the way we break down a script at the studio: three reads, each with a different job, so that by the third one you’re living inside the scene instead of reciting it. The examples are from the Masterclass scene study.
First read: the story
The first time through, you read for the plot and for where your character fits in it. You get a feel for what the play is saying, you look for the whys, and you notice the decisions the characters make. Your opinions about the story arrive here. The work doesn’t stop here.
Second read: the scientist
Now you’re your character’s most important ally. You take the script line by line with a magnifying glass and score it. Why is this person in the story? What happened to them before page one, and how does it shape everything they do inside it?
Third read: the character
You know the story and you’ve built the person. Now you step in: mind, body, emotion and physical life, the imaginary world the writer set up, and you inside it, bringing yourself to the character rather than disappearing into them.
There’s a companion video on the site, three things to practice every day, that runs alongside this. Buy the course once and it’s yours.
