What is Improv?

Improvisation is non-scripted storytelling. Being a “funny” person is not required nor do we teach people to “be funny”. All teens immediately feel welcome and respected as our approach is all about listening and truthfully reacting.

How do you teach Improv?

Put simply… We take comedy seriously and have a lot of fun in the process. Our brand of Improv is designed to enhance critical life skills that encourage teen actors to think, feel, laugh and leave every class inspired.

What skills are developed in the Improv Acting Class?

Students develop the skills to be fearless, spontaneous, vulnerable and authentic in every performance on and off the stage.

Who should consider taking an Improv Class?

Improvisation is critical for actors of course, however, the benefits go beyond the acting industry and have been proven to improve self-esteem, communication, leadership and personal development.

What Our Teen Actors Have To Say!

Actress Jada Warner | Dearing Acting Studio

Matt has a way of breaking down the areas in need of improvement while simultaneously building the actor up. He reminds his students that there is no end point in the art of acting- it’s a continuous, never-ending process and thus we as actors must find joy in the constant grind of improvement instead of focusing on crossing out x,y, and z on the to-do list we’ve created for ourselves that we believe must be completed before we can be considered a successful actor.

Jada Warner

Teen Actor

The Classes at Dearing Acting Studio have taught me so much about not only acting, but how to better myself and obtain more confidence. The environment is very friendly and encouraging. Brian Sweeney as well as Matt Dearing are excellent mentors towards everyone who wants to follow their dreams. They use insider information on how to excel in the industry. The classes are great and would recommend to anyone who is interested in honing their skills.

Dylan Lawellin

Teen Actor

Since I’ve joined Dearing Acting Studio I’ve grown more confident in myself and learned so many skills to help further my career. Matt and Brian are very invested in making sure we are at our full potential. I’ve also made great friends that very supportive and fun! Thank you Dearing!
