Description

Most auditions now start as a self tape, which means you’re the videographer, the editor and the actor every time you submit. Nobody trained actors for that. This workshop does, in six short lessons, so the tape gets out of the way of the performance.

The six lessons

  • Accepting the audition. Reply fast, read the specs thoroughly, and ask smart questions by email. Casting notices this before they notice your read.
  • Your profile. Auditions come through Casting Networks, Actors Access and the like, and your profile decides whether you’re asked at all. It has to be current and it has to look exactly like you.
  • Lighting. You don’t need a professional setup. You need to know where the light comes from and what it does to your face.
  • Audio. If the sound is bad you’re out, and it’s the easiest thing on this list to get right with what you already own.
  • Filming the audition. How you frame it says something about you. Horizontal unless the notice says otherwise, and the notice always wins.
  • File sizes. How to compress a video for a submission that wants a specific size, without it looking compressed.

Thirty-five dollars, and it’s yours to keep. What’s on the tape is still up to you; the classes are for that.
