Fighting for a Positive Mindset

Fighting for a Positive Mindset

Let’s be honest. It is so easy for us to fall into the rabbit hole of negative thoughts. Even when we don’t mean to, we do. It starts with us directly or indirectly outweighing the pro’s and con’s about whatever situation. Then all of a sudden, the negative reactions pour in from the shadows in our minds. Next thing you know, you’ve completely clouded any of the positives of the situation, and your mind is glued to one hair that was out of place.

We’ve all been there, right? Me too. Today on the Podcast, Dearing Acting Studio director Matt Dearing brings in his Aunt, Vicki Sweeney. (Who also happens to be our newest improv student!) This conversation follows a very real truth that was exposed right outside in our parking lot. It was scary, it was bold, and it was true.

Find those that are willing to shift your mindset.

Vicki brought up the coolest point when talking about the epiphany she had. It is extremely difficult to come to terms with the fact that honesty and truth are things that we want. We might say we want it, but the Capitol of Defense town is definitely hurt feelings. So when Matt first spoke his truth to Vicki, she was hurt. She was angry at Matt for speaking truth into her. Because, on the outside, of course we want people to know the truth, right? But what if it’s you? When do you decide you want someone to hold a mirror to your face? Fighting for a positive mindset can be a daunting task at times when the mind so easily wants to bury itself in negativity.

What do you think other people hear/see/experience when you carry the weight of that each day?

Navigate your own growth.

If you are lucky enough to have a mentor in your life to guide you in your journey of self-betterment, that is amazing. But! You must be strong enough to fight for your perspective with each and every decision you make. At the end of the day, it is all on you. Your mentor, boss, parents, friends, may guide you in directions that work, are working or worked for them, but they are not you. Only you have the power to set your intention each day and make the conscious decision to own up to yourself and your actions. Check out this awesome video of my mentor, Matthew Dearing, speaking on what he knows best.
