Getting started
Can you tell me about your program?
The best actor in the room is the best listener in the room. That is what we teach, and we teach it the same way to a nine-year-old and to a surgeon.
Everything is built out of two halves, Script and Improv. Great scripted work should look, sound and feel like the actor is making it up as they go. Great improvisation should look, sound and feel like a play that was written and rehearsed. Each one makes the other better, which is why we teach both.
The highest level actors train here, and so does everybody else. We train doctors, lawyers, CEOs, real estate professionals, sales associates, and everyone in between.
Do I need experience?
No. We teach the person in front of us, so the room works whether you have been acting for twenty years or have never said a line out loud.
You are on your feet every class, and you get your own note every week.
What ages do you teach?
Kids 5 to 11, teens 11 to 17, and adults.
It is the same curriculum at every age. We do not water it down for the younger rooms – truth is truth, and a seven-year-old can handle it.
How do I start?
Pick a class and enroll. New students begin on the first class of the month, and you are in the room that night.
Classes and schedule
What is the class schedule?
| Kids · Script | Mondays, 4:15 to 5:35 PM |
|---|---|
| Kids · Improv | Wednesdays, 4:15 to 5:35 PM, or Fridays at noon |
| Teens · Script | Mondays, 5:45 to 7:45 PM |
| Teens · Improv | Wednesdays, 5:45 to 7:45 PM |
| Adults · Script | Mondays or Tuesdays, 8 to 10 PM |
| Adults · Improv | Wednesdays or Thursdays, 8 to 10 PM |
The studio calendar carries the dates for every month.
When do classes start and end?
Classes begin the first week of the month and run three weeks in a row. The fourth week is off.
Holidays move things once or twice a year, and the calendar always has the real dates.
What is the difference between Script and Improv?
Script. Making someone else’s words sound like they are being thought for the first time. Scenes with a partner, monologues, commercial copy – whatever the material asks for. These skills connect directly to your improv work, and to the way you speak in every room you walk into.
Improv. Hyper-listening. You learn to react truthfully, organically and emotionally in the moment. You learn to build characters, each with their own point of view. These skills connect directly to any script work you are doing, on stage or in film, and in your personal life.
Should I take one class or both?
Both, if the schedule allows it. Each one makes the other better, and the students who move fastest are the ones doing both.
Two classes are $370 a month for adults and teens, $230 a month for kids. The discount comes off in the cart.
I missed a class. Can I make it up?
The class comes to you. Every class is filmed on four cameras and lands in your student portal, so the one you missed is still yours to take – on your own time, at home, sick in bed, or anywhere in the world you happen to be that week. Kids, teens and adults all have it.
Where a class runs on two nights you can take the other night that month as well, which covers all four adult classes. Let us know in advance so we can adjust that night’s plan for you.
Kid Improv runs Wednesday afternoon and Friday at noon, and those are two different groups rather than two shots at the same class, so the video is the makeup there.
Money
How much are classes?
| One class | Two classes | |
| Kids | $145 a month | $230 a month |
| Teens | $225 a month | $370 a month |
| Adults | $225 a month | $370 a month |
One price a month, three classes a month. Nothing else to buy.
Do I pay every week?
No. It is one payment a month.
You pay when you enroll, and after that it renews on the 22nd for the month ahead.
What if I need to stop?
Tell us before the 22nd and nothing renews. The month you have paid for is yours to finish.
If something changes before a course starts, let us know at least 48 hours ahead and we will move the money to a class credit you can use on any future course.
Class sizes are limited, and your instructor builds the month around who is in the room, so once a course is under way we hold the commitment.
The studio
Where are you?
10806 N. 32nd St, Phoenix AZ 85028, just off the 51 at Shea. Parking is free and right outside the door.
Can you make me famous?
No, but you can make yourself famous.
We work with actors who are on major networks, and a good number of our students have had real commercial success. What we train is the craft, and that is the part you control.
Are you an agency?
No, we are a training studio. When a student is ready for representation we are glad to make a personal recommendation to the agencies here in Arizona.
If you are producing in Arizona and looking for talent, that is Phoenix Casting.
Do you teach online?
Our recorded courses and workshops are available any time, filmed on four cameras in 4K, so you are in the middle of the room.
