Jonathan was living and performing as an actor in Colorado before he moved to Phoenix in February of 2018. He went looking for a studio in his new market and found a home here. In his training he has worked on two things above all: a joyful mindset, and presenting himself with strength and confidence in front of other people. He has a why that’s bigger than a career, and he explains it better than I can. Here’s his Dearing Story.
In Jonathan’s words
What would you tell someone who wants to try an acting class?
“Acting is not easy. But if you try hard and work hard, there is a place for you.”
What is your why?
“I want to show people that having a disability doesn’t matter. It just matters who you are as a person, instead of what your physical limitations are. There are not a lot of actors out there who are in wheelchairs, and there should be, because there are so many people who are not represented.”
Every actor in this building is asked what their why is. Jonathan’s is one of the clearest I’ve heard, and it’s the reason he works the way he does.
Your next step
If you work hard, there is a place for you.
