EXPLORE THE SCRIPT- First Read.
Script breakdown and character analysis can be a daunting task, but the lessons you will explore in this course will get you excited to read between the lines. The first time we read a script, we read to examine the plot line and figure out where our character fits in. So this is where we get an initial feel for the message. We look for the “why’s” and evaluate the decisions the characters make. Typically, this first read is where our opinions and thoughts of the story itself come in. However, our work does not stop there.
BECOME A SCIENTIST – Second Read.
Welcome to the stand! You have just become your character’s most important ally. You are now the official defensive attorney to your script and it’s characters. This is where you find your magnifying class and begin to score your script line by line. So now you may ask yourself, why is this character important to this story? And, how does my character’s backstory influence their character arch within the script?
BE THE CHARACTER – Third Read.
This is where we learn to live inside the scene. We understand the story and we’ve evaluated your character and their purpose. So now, what’s left to do? Now is when we discover total embodiment of the character and the imaginary life the writer has established for us. Our job as actors is to allow ourselves to breathe down and jump into the mind, body, emotions and physicality’s of the character but at the same time, influence the character as ourselves.
Additionally, Check out this actor tip from coach Matthew Dearing that delves even deeper into 3 techniques you can practice everyday as you go through script analysis and life in general.
Time to dive in and study! We hope you enjoy this course!
